Help! My colour is darker than expected. Why is this?

Darker colour results can sometimes be seen if the hair is porous, or if there were older, darker pigments in your hair.

Colour cannot lighten pre-existing colour pigments which are in your hair. So if you have darker colour in your hair, you will need to remove that first before you can achieve a lighter colour level.

If your hair naturally has a very fine or curly texture, then it could be naturally porous. Porous hair tends to over-absorb colour, leading to darker colour outcomes.

Damaged hair can also be porous, and can over-absorb colour.
